We Care Film Fest is an annual international festival of documentary films on disability issues. It is organized by Brotherhood in association with the United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan (UNIC), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the National Trust and the Asian Academy of Film and Television (AAFT). This unique Festival began in 2003 and is now in its eighth year.
The Festival is an advocacy tool that seeks to bring about attitudinal and behavioral changes on approaches to disability, promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, and rid people of misconceptions, myths and prejudices surrounding disability issues. The Festival seeks to promote the rights of persons with disabilities as set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) which came into force on 3 May 2008, as also the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 (‘PWD Act’) and the National Trust Act, 1999.

Travelling film festival: Screenings are organized at 51 venues including educational institutions, universities and hospitals across India and the SAARC countries (Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan). The next edition of the festival will begin in August 2010 and conclude in May 2011. We are expecting approximately 12500 audience will watch and rate each and every film/documentary. |

Film Festival through SATELLITE CHANNEL “Nav Shikhar” launched by Rehabilitation Council of India (Statutory body of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India) in association India Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Media Lab Asia. |

First time Film festival will be organized through satellite channel “Nav Shikhar” which was set up to link 470 study centres across India committed to disability rehabilitation education in the country. Audience at these centers will watch and rate each and every film/documentary. It will be first time in India when audience will watch and rate the films through satellite channel. We will also invite experts from disability sector and film industry to interact with the audience directly. We are expecting approximately 18800 audience will watch and rate each and every film/documentary. |

So approximately 31,300 audience will watch and rate each and every film and documentary in addition to other invities / celebrities like Chief Guests, Guests of Honour, special Invitees and media. |

Involves a Participatory Rating Process (PRP) wherein the audience rates each film. An independent jury then judges the films on the basis of these ratings. |

This process provides a unique opportunity to students to develop their understanding and perspectives relating to disability issues, and also contributes to the process of participatory rating. |
